We are so excited to be featured in Inc. Magazine’s Best Workplaces of 2020 because of our business culture. I remember reading these lists before Zestful and admired the companies and the cultures they built, so to now be included among them is an honor.

Inc. Magazine collected a trove of data through employee surveys that were sent to over 3,000 companies to determine this year’s list of best workplaces. They found the strongest engagement scores came from companies that prioritize the most human elements of work, and these companies are leading the way in employee recognition, performance, management, and diversity.

Focus on the human over fun in the workplace is a very different playbook from just a few years ago. Far too many companies rely on the same template of free food, open office concept, and other “artifacts” of fun like ping pong tables and kombucha kegs. And quite honestly, we couldn’t be more thrilled to see this shift in thinking.

Building a human first culture

Receiving this award has also been a great reminder for me, especially during this season of COVID-19, of how we’ve built and how we should continue to build our company culture here at Zestful.

To create a great culture culture that emphasizes the human side of business, here are some of the things we prioritize within our teams.

Default trust

More than ever with companies being remote, many for the first time, having a culture of trust is incredibly important, and it is one that we’ve worked to build since day one.

Defaulting to trust allows us to give our team the freedom, flexibility, and responsibility to do their best work. Our strategy is to hire the best people and then get out of their way. I firmly believe we’re all better because of this.

Always be learning

We encourage everyone in the company to keep learning. Always. And learn about anything that makes you curious.

We strive to think creatively and solve complex problems in new and exciting ways, and being a constant student of your craft is how the most impactful solutions come about. Not only does this make things more exciting day-to-day, but it also leads to better business outcomes. We are so serious about this idea that we give every employee a yearly stipend to spend on anything that will help further their knowledge.

Don’t forget to have fun

Startups are hard – oftentimes, really hard. So it’s important that we prioritize adding a little fun along the way. And with the stress and emotional drain that comes during these crazy times, it’s more important than ever that we strive to have some fun. Whether it’s coordinating virtual happy hours, scheduling casual coffee breaks over Zoom, or having some fun with Goals App, we try our hardest to keep spirits high at Zestful.

In conclusion

Creating a strong company culture has never been more important than it is today. Where many are being pushed to work apart, it’s crucial that we find and build meaningful ways for us to come together.

We’re dedicated to building products for your company’s greatest asset – your people

We’re working to help you foster cultures that surpass time zones and work hours to make your teams feel rewarded, recognized and closer together.

As Inc. Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Scott Omelianuk says, “Building a great company culture comes only from strong leadership.”
